Cancer At Stage 4: What Is It And How To Survive It

You may have heard people talk about stage 4 cancer whether it be on a medical TV show or just overhearing some conversation. You have probably wondered what it precisely means for cancer sufferers and how can people overcome such a type of cancer. These two questions will be answered in this article.

Every type of cancer known to man is classified by stages. In total, there are 4 stages, stages 1, 2, 3 and finally 4. Stage 1 is considered the initial and least dangerous stage of a cancer while stage 4 is the most advanced and most dangerous stage of a cancer. What differentiates Stage 4 from Stage 1 is that in Stage 1, the cancer is localized and restricted to one part of the body while in Stage 4, the cancer has metastasized meaning that cancer has moved to other organs in the body. You can now see why it is the most advanced and dangerous stage of the disease.

While you have heard many people say that sufferers of cancers at stage 4 are inoperable, this is not true. Fortunately, nowadays with medical advancements, cancers at this advanced stage can be operated on and many people have survived to tell the tale thanks to them. The 2 most common types of treatment for these types of cancer are surgery and chemotherapy. Surgery is very common for a cancer at this advanced stage as this is the most effective and quickest way to remove as much cancer as possible from the body. It is then normal for chemotherapy to be used to eliminate the cancer that could not be removed during surgery.

In conclusion, cancer sufferers should not despair if they are diagnosed with an advanced stage of cancer. You could have forgiven for worrying more than 50 years ago when there didn't exist today's treatments. However, surviving cancer at stage 4 is now very possible and you should investigate all possibilities.
