An Overview Of Ovarian Cancer

Ovarian cancer is actually a relatively common condition in women. This type of cancer occurs when there is an abnormal growth in one, or both ovaries. The growth that occurs is nothing more than a collaboration of cells that are not healthy. If a female is able to receive an early diagnosis of this particular condition, it is quite likely that she will be able to fully recover if the doctor’s orders are adhered to. If this type of cancer is not identified in time, there is a potential that the abnormal cells will spread to many different areas of the body, and it could become fatal. Here, you will receive an overview of ovarian cancer.

The Causes of Ovarian Cancer

While doctors and other specialists have worked to uncover the cause for the development of cancer in the ovaries, to date, they have not been successful. While there does seem to be risk factors and theories surrounding the development of this particular condition, there have not been a successful attempt in determining a cause that is conclusive as to “why” women experience this serious disease. The following indicates some of the potential risk factors and/or theories that surround this condition:

• Genetics

• Infertility

• Hormonal Complications

The Symptoms of Ovarian Cancer

When it comes to the symptoms of ovarian cancer, it has been found that there are generally none in the first stages of the condition. Once the cancer begins to strengthen, however, symptoms become more and more obvious. The following will give you a good idea as to what types of symptoms are generally experienced:

1. Many women will have pain in the abdominal area. This may be dull, aching pain or even muscle cramps.

2. There are a number of individuals that will feel pain in the back area. This may or may not be accompanied by pelvic pain.

3. During sexual intercourse, bleeding may become apparent.

4. Abnormal bleeding and unusual discharge from the vagina are often good indicators of this type of cancer in the reproductive system.

5. There are a number of people who will experience nausea regularly.

6. Energy levels may decrease, and fatigue levels may increase.

7. Unexplained weight loss may start to occur.

8. In the area of the stomach, a bulge or a lump may appear.

9. Many women may find that they experience gas on a regular basis, and this may be accompanied by moderate to severe bloating.

10. Bowel and bladder habits may experience a change. This change may be related to frequency, and even type.

Conclusion

This type of reproductive cancer can be extremely devastating to the female that experiences it. It is important to have regular physicals and Pap Smears in order to ensure that if this condition is caught, it can be treated before spreading throughout the body. While there are cases in which women have successfully recovered, in other cases the condition proved to be fatal. As a female, it is absolutely vital that you learn all that you can about ovarian cancer in order to reduce the possibility of developing it.
