An Overview Of Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is a serious condition in which cells in the prostate of men grow at relatively rapid rates. This condition typically occurs in men who are in their sixties and older, but can strike at any time in a man’s life. The prostate is a gland that is in the body of a male. While no bigger than the size of a walnut, any type of cancerous cells that form in this area can lead to major health complications. If cancer occurs, many men may experience death as a result of it. Here, you will be provided with a detailed overview of prostate cancer.

Prostate Cancer Explained

In men, the prostate is a gland that is directly related to producing a large amount of the fluid that is ejaculated in the form of semen. This fluid helps in the process of carrying the sperm that is eliminated from the body during sexual intercourse, and other sexual related activities that result in male ejaculation. The testicles in men produce a hormone that is called testosterone. The overall function of the prostate gland is dependent upon this particular hormone. When cancer cells develop in this area of the man’s body, they normally do so quite rapidly and spread rapidly to other locations of the body. While there are many potential causes of this type of cancer, it is believed that dietary choices and genetics play the largest role in the onset of the condition.

The Symptoms of Prostate Cancer

There are a number of symptoms that are common with the cancer that is associated with prostate cancer. The following represents some of the most common symptoms:

1. Many men find that they need to urinate on a more frequent basis.

2. It may prove to be difficult when it comes to starting urination, as well as stopping it when there are complications with the prostate gland.

3. When urination is occurring, many may find that it is a weak stream and that it takes longer to eliminate all the fluids that are necessary to experience relief.

4. When a male who has this type of cancer urinates, or experiences ejaculation, they may experience a sensation that is “burning”.

5. It is extremely common for the male to experience a bloody discharge while urinating and/or ejaculating.

6. A man may experience pain in the area of the back, hips, pelvic region, and even the thighs.

7. Nausea and vomiting may be experienced.

8. Many men begin to lose weight due to a drastic decrease in their appetite.

9. High levels of fatigue may be experienced.

10. Pain in the lower pelvic area may be experienced during urination, erection, and/or ejaculation.

If you experience any of the symptoms here, and are a male, it is a good idea to ensure that you get a complete physical done. You should explain the symptoms that you are experiencing so that your doctor can focus on the possibility of your having prostate cancer.
